Another 2-in-in!

Cake Bake Protein Shake

I tried this twice, the first time I didn’t have the cottage cheese or pudding so I used yogurt and vanilla extract. Didn’t really taste like I expected. I then tried it again once I had the right things, still didn’t taste like cake batter. It tasted more like a vanilla drink. Not at all how I expected it  It wasn’t bad tasting, it was actually quite yummy, but not cake batter. Even though it tasted good, I’m giving it a no since it didn’t taste like cake batter like it implied.

Mod Podge Tinted Jars

This one purely pissed me off because THIS SHIT DID NOT WORK and I wanted it to so badly. I did everything the pin says to do and it was close to a disaster. I left it to dry and cool for maybe 7 or more hours (left the house for the day), I came back to find it looked exactly as it did when I left. The color was dull and atrocious, nothing like the pretty and bright colors of the final product in the pin. The mod podge has gooped up and gotten thick around the rim of the jar so I tried to pull it out, under the puff it was all wet and the exact texture of the podge/dye mixture. Pulling the rim stuff off also pulled the rest of it off. This stuff did literally nothing to the jar because when it pulled off the jar was clear like it was before. I ended up cleaning them out and getting rid of everything inside it. Everything ended up being sticky and the glue would not come off my hands for anything. I was disappointed about this craft because I really love the blue tinted mason jars. Maybe there was way too much mixture? Maybe the oven wasn’t hot enough? I don’t know, I may try again another time. I don’t have pictures because I was so frustrated and just wanted that shit out of the jars so bad that I didn’t think about it. My phone was also dead. Giving this one a no.

I updated the tie-dye post with a pic of my shirt! Check it out!

2-in-1: CB Smoothie and Bleach Tie-dye

I decided to put this in one entry since they’re so short.

Cinnamon Bun Smoothie

I was very excited to try this one because I love cinnamon. I didn’t have any unsweetened almond milk, so I just used regular milk, not sure if that changes the taste or not. One thing that did throw me off was how little cinnamon the recipe called for. The smoothie didn’t taste like cinnamon, much less a cinnamon bun. It tasted like a banana that smelled like cinnamon, and was rather bland. I didn’t like it. I’m not sure why a cinnamon flavored smoothie recipe calls for a banana and hardly any cinnamon but it did. Now that I think about it, practically all the interesting smoothie pins I find call for a banana but they are not banana smoothies. Weird. Giving this one a no.

I loved this pin and have always wanted to try it. I bought a black bro tank from walmart (about $4! go get ’em!) and tried this out. I did 1 part bleach 2 parts water, but added a little more bleach later. Mine came out an orange color rather than the nice whitish yellow in the pin and there is not nearly as much black. I had a XXL size shirt (they didn’t have a L so I just got a super big one) so that might be why. A smaller shirt twists tighter so it will have more black than a larger one. I’d post a picture of mine but I don’t have one right now. I really need to get on that taking-photos shit. Anyways, I’m giving this one a yes!

UPDATE: here is my shirt!

Baby Powder Eyelashes

Image

I’m sure many of you have seen this one floating around. It looks amazing and since my eyelashes are effin horrible (a bit short, thin, not very many), I wanted something that would actually work.

When doing this, it’s best if you put the baby powder in a little bowl or cup or something. I tried cupping it in my hand and had a hard time applying it with the other. I then tried putting it on a paper towel and dabbing the q-tip but that was hopeless. Lift the lashes like in the photo, it helps. Closing your eyes and brushing it in helps, too. I suppose you could even try using an old, dry mascara brush. This is genius now that I think about it and would help tremendously. Oh, be sure not to get it IN your eyes, either. I did and it’s not horrible but it’s bothering me a little bit. I would also suggest putting a light amount of mascara on before the powder, maybe about two or three swipes. I tried this yesterday and put too much on and also waited too long to put the powder on. It should be: light coat of mascara, a good bit of powder right after, heavier coat of mascara.

These are my results. I didn’t put any eyeliner on so you could see the full effect of the lashes. I’m happy with them, to say the least. However, it kind of made them clump together a bit. I don’t think they look like false lashes like the pin implied, it just made them appear thicker, which I actually really like because my lashes are thin. I think I’ll be doing this again more often because of the added thickness and I’m giving this pin a yes.

The pin’s direct link was reported as spam by Pinterest users so I don’t have a link for this one. I’ll also be trying some breakfast smoothies I found tomorrow, so I’ll probably make that my next entry.

No-Heat Curls (with a Headband!)

Image

This links directly to a blog, Pinterest-Tutorials, with more info, found here

I was pleasantly surprised that this pin actually worked. I was skeptical (honestly, when are we not when it comes to Pinterest?) but it was great. I used a smaller headband, about half the width that the girl in the photo used. My hair is medium length and naturally curly (it has a mind of it’s own some days, so I decided to control the curls) so the caption on the pin is not true. Try it with damp hair, as it’s easier to work with and not completely wet. After taking the band out, I brushed and combed through my hair. It looked effin crazy and very reminiscent of the 60s (just think Amy Adams’ poster for American Hustle but more frizz…). I just used my hair dryer and blew in a downward motion. It toned down the curls a lot and looked awesome.

My sister also tried this last night, but instead twisted her hair before wrapping it around the band. Her band was thicker than the one in the pin, though. It turned out really nice with tight curls.

It certainly did not look like the end result in the pin, but I believe that’s because a) my hair is shorter than hers and b) I used a smaller band. My hair was more spiral curls than soft curls. I’d post photos of my results but I don’t have any or the time to do it right now. I’ll update soon with them, though. I’m giving this pin a yes and will definitely be doing it again in the future!

Pasta Salad

I had back surgery last week and I’m pretty much stuck laying in bed all day (no sitting allowed), so I think I’ll just go ahead and post a few things I’ve already tried.

Everybody knows that Ruby Tuesday has the most AMAZING pasta salad on that wonderful salad bar of theirs. I cannot express how much I love this stuff and I’m sure you do, too. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, get to a RT pronto. It’s so good that we often dine there just for the pasta salad alone. There are so many recipes out there — especially on Pinterest — for a “copy cat” of this delectable goodness. I found one and we tried it out two nights ago for dinner.

Now this pin links directly to The Dog Mom, I don’t want to take credit for her recipe, so I’ll just leave a link here.

This recipe is 100% awesome! It tastes  JUST like Ruby Tuesday’s and I was so pleased with it! Big thank you to this blogger for putting this out into the world! I’ll admit, when we made the “sauce” mixture thing, I tried it and was very skeptical. It didn’t taste like it should but once we mixed everything together it was perfect. We had a little too much peas and bell pepper, but that’s just a personal preference. We also used the multicolored rotini, I’m not sure if that affects the outcome or not, but I don’t think it matters since it’s really just adding a bit of color. We ended up making 1 1/2 of the recipe since we had a little more pasta noddles than we needed, leaving us with a bunch left over but I’m not complaining since I’ve eaten it for lunch yesterday and today and I really just want more. I’ll definitely be using this recipe at potlucks and such in the future! I’m giving this pin a yes!

Check out The Dog Mom for more great recipes! I feel like this woman’s food will be all over Pinterest haha.

Shaving with Baby Oil Gel

Hi all! FIRST ACTUAL BLOG POST RIGHT HERE! WOOO!
Anyways…

We’ve all seen this pin. It’s circulated more than a TMZ elevator clip (cough cough). This was probably the first thing from Pinterest I ever tried, because seriously, this sounds amazing. No more hassles with shaving cream, no more buying shaving cream. That shit is too expensive for what we use it for. And if you’re like me, you don’t like any old shaving cream; you have a brand you stick with and that is serious business.

When I tried this I had a pretty used razor, a Venus just like in the photo. I was about to throw it out and figured I’d try it before getting a new one. I was unable to go to the store myself at the time, so I asked my mom to pick up the baby oil gel while she was there so I ended up using this instead of the Johnsons brand.

Now to the nitty gritty. I tried this, it did not work. It clogged up my razor after two swipes, and since water and oil don’t like to work together, I could not get it cleaned to save my life. Because of the whole oil and water thing, it also went on weird. I can’t explain it, but it felt strange — almost thick — on my skin and I didn’t like it. A few of my friends even tried this and didn’t like their experience, either.

I read some comments on the actual pin saying to “clean the razor with a toothbrush when it’s clogged,” “try a different razor,” “use just baby oil instead of gel,” “mix it with lotion,” etc. I’m guessing it’s taking some serious dedication to get the results you’re expecting. Let’s be honest, though, shaving takes enough dedication as it is. It’s quite possibly the LAST thing I want to do, even though shaved legs is the greatest feeling on Earth.

In conclusion, it might have worked for some people but it simply did not work for me. I may try this at another time and give an update, but for now I’m giving this pin a no.

Introduction

Hi! Here’s a quick intro to my blog…

For those who don’t personally know me (since this is a public blog on the great world wide webernet), I’ll go by Tori Turtle. I’m a 20-something college student and — just like you — I’m slightly addicted to Pinterest. I’ve always seen loads of things I wanted to try: cute crafts, great hair styles, “life tips,” delicious recipes that make your ass bigger by just looking at them. Let’s be realistic, though, will we ever try them? Probably not. But I’d like to so that’s why I made this!

I’ll be trying out and updating every so often with pins that did or didn’t work for me. I’ve already tried a couple of things out, but I would rather report on my laptop as opposed to my phone. That being said, check back soon! =)
